About Dan

Hey, I’m Dan, an Edinburgh-based photographer, with a passion for the performing arts; particularly live music. Like all good music stories, it probably began way back as a child, immersed in my parent’s unreasonably large and diverse music collection. It continued in my formative years attending gigs and festivals, perhaps occasionally sneaking my camera in. Nowadays, my camera only joins me when invited.

While it’s important to note that such practices are generally not encouraged or condoned, these experiences shaped my ability to adapt quickly, find unique vantage points, and capture the essence of the performance and hopefully convey some of the sensations I experienced.

I love the dynamic and ever-changing world of the performing arts. The thrill of being in the midst of the crowd, feeling the pulse of the music, or visceral feelings evoked by the spoken word, and capturing those fleeting moments that make live performances so special. That’s what drives me. The best stories are ones that you are part of and the best gift is to share them.

I want to convey the essence of the performance, giving viewers a glimpse into the energy and atmosphere of the event, even if they couldn’t be there in person. It’s my way of saying, I wish you could have been there and here’s what you missed. Arguably for some, it’s a case of, I know you were there and here’s what you missed.

If you’re a performing artist, a festival organizer, or a music enthusiast looking for a photographer who truly understands and shares your love for live performances, drop me a line.
